Dear Colleagues,

 

As summer approaches, I want to thank everyone for their energy, dedication, and care for our university. Despite the changing academic calendar, our vital work supporting students, faculty, staff, and the institution persists throughout campus.

 

I am pleased to inform you of a personnel update: the appointment of Dr. Adrienne Freng as our next Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, effective June 22, 2026.

Dr. Freng brings extraordinary depth of experience in faculty leadership, shared governance, academic administration, policy development, and faculty support to this role. She currently serves as Associate Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences and previously served as Interim Dean. Throughout her career at UW, she has also served as Department Head of Criminal Justice and Sociology, Interim Chair of Theatre and Dance, Faculty Senate Chair, Presidential Faculty Fellow, and Faculty Conciliator.

 

I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to Dr. Dave Bagley for his continued leadership and service as Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs. Dave has provided thoughtful guidance and steady leadership during an important period for Academic Affairs and the university. He will continue serving in the Vice Provost role until June 22 and will thereafter transition to serve as Special Assistant to the Vice Provost, helping ensure continuity and a smooth transition.

 

Please join me in congratulating Adrienne on this appointment and thanking Dave for his continued service to ÃÛÑ¿TV!

 

I also encourage faculty and staff to stay engaged with the important institutional conversations taking place this summer. The university’s Budget Footnote Working Group will hold its first meeting on June 1 as part of UW’s ongoing efforts related to legislative budget footnote requirements and institutional efficiency planning. I would also like to recognize the continued work and engagement of our Staff Senate. Even during the summer, Staff Senate continues to provide important leadership, advocacy, and service to our campus community. The next Staff Senate meeting will be held Wednesday, June 3, from 1:15–4:00 p.m. in the Union Senate Chambers. Thank you to Staff Senate leadership and all staff representatives for their ongoing commitment to UW. 

 

As the days become warmer and a bit longer, I hope each of you finds opportunities this summer for renewal, reflection, and connection.
