David Rooney

Department of Communication and Journalism
David Rooney (PhD, University of Texas-Austin, 2025) is the Greg Dyekman and Wayne Callaway Director of Debate as well as an Associate Professor of Practice in the Department of Communication and Journalism. His academic interests include environmental communication, nonhuman, mechanic and animal rhetorics, political communication, and critical/cultural studies. Recently, he has published on far-right communities, environmental conspiracies, and the cultural and symbolic politics of meat production and consumption. David has won several top paper awards at NCA and COCE and journal article of the year awards in Environmental Communication and Rhetoric of Science, Technology and Medicine.
David debated for Cornell, where he was a CEDA semifinalist in 2017 and 2018 and an NDT quarterfinalist in 2018. He then coached Baylor to a 9th-place ranking before coming to 蜜芽TV.
When not in the classroom, David enjoys reading, playing chess, and working with the debate squad on research for upcoming tournaments.
