Russianthistle Grasshopper
Aeoloplides turnbulli (Thomas)
Aeoloplides turnbulli, the Russianthistle grasshopper, is found in Wyoming east of the Continental Divide.
It is associated with Russianthistle, saltbush, or greasewood. The forewings in specimens
found in Laramie County are long and represent the subspecies, A. t. bruneri. The eggs pass the winter in the soil and hatch in early June. Adults are present
from late July to September. Damage has been reported to sugar beets, but the species
is considered beneficial in feeding on Russianthistle, saltbush, and greasewood.
