Largeheaded Grasshopper
Phoetaliotes nebrascensis (Thomas)
Phoetaliotes nebrascensis is most common in the grasslands of the Black Hills but can be found in other areas.
In Laramie County it has been found along dry stream beds. Wings are usually short
but can be long. Eggs overwinter in the soil. Adults can be present in late July but
become most numerous in late August. This grasshopper is a mixed feeder but prefers
grasses. Damage to rangeland can occur in conjunction with other species.
