Texas Brownspotted Grasshopper
Psoloessa texana Scudder
Psoloessa texana, the Texas brownspotted grasshopper, was first recorded from Wyoming during the 1992
survey of the shortgrass prairies of southeast Wyoming. It is very similar in appearance
and habits to P. delicatula. Eggs probably hatch in July. Nymphs overwinter in the third or fourth instar. Adults
were found in May and early June. It feeds on grasses but it is not numerous enough
to damage forage except when other early season species are very numerous.
