A University of Florida lecturer will discuss his research on racism as a public health crisis as part of ĂÛŃżTV Black Studies Centerâs (UWBSC) 2021-22 Let Freedom Ring Lecture Series.
Rik Stevenson will present âThe Negro Question and Racism as a Public Health Crisisâ Monday, Nov. 15, at 6 p.m. via Zoom. To view the lecture, go to .
Stevensonâs research on racism as a public health crisis examines the role racism plays in American society and beyond.
âHis research extends the current and insufficient research found in the mainstream academic offerings in higher education,â says Fredrick Douglass Dixon, the UWBSC director.
Dixon says the UWBSC will continue its dedication to the fundamental principles of UWâs diversity, equity and inclusion endeavors by reexamining the âNegro Questionâ of the first Mohonk Conference of 1890.
âThe âNegro Questionâ asks: âWhat should be done with the presence of the troublesome Negro for maximum exploitation?â This question is the overarching theme and undergirds the UWBSCâs events for this academic year,â Dixon says.
