The raised berm on the west side of the building comprises a wide variety of plants chosen for their ability to survive and thrive in this arid environment. From flowering plants to shrubs and trees, there is something for everyone. Other gardens on the property include a shade garden, an alternative turf area, a hummingbird garden, a perennial garden, a small sensory garden area, a silver garden, and an area that is being developed into an arboretum and urban orchard.

The Paul Smith Children’s Village provides a full afternoon of fun for the younger set, while the rose, crevice, and pollinator habitat gardens, as well as the Shane Smith Grand Conservatory, offer a delightful and educational experience for all ages.
High Plains Arboretum
Cheyenne, WY
The arboretum contains hardy trees, and shrubs that were tested for survival on the High Plains. They have survived a number of decades without supplemental irrigation.

UW Extension - WRIR demo High Tunnel

South side of this large garden bed in a city park features a mixture of non-native and native water-wise plants (flowers and grasses), while the north side features regionally native plants.

Visit ÃÛÑ¿TV Extension - Niobrara County office at the fairgrounds to view their demonstration garden. Along with providing a pleasant sight to all, the garden serves as a pollinator garden to their bee hive.
Bill Kohlbrand Arboretum
Located along Stampede Street in Newcastle, WY. It was originally planted in 2013 in honor of Bill Kolhbrand. Former District Forester for Wyoming State Forestry. Since then, it has grown to 125 trees, representing over 50 different species. The arboretum serves as a living experiment to test the sustainability of a wide range of tree species in Newcastle’s harsh climate. You can see the trees on the City of Newcastle Urban Forestry Map Click on a tree icon for info about that tree. If you visit Newcastle look for signed trees (with QR codes) all around town.
Pinedale Water-wise demonstration garden
Corner of Maybell and Magnolia Streets, Pindale, WY 82941
This site features plants that are low maintenance and grow well in Pinedale with minimum water. Common plants found in the garden include Rocky Mountain penstemon, Maximilian sunflower, yarrow, wild iris, wild geranium, cranesbill lupine, and native asters.
Kendrick Arboretum
Sheridan, Wyoming
8.5 acres featuring trees in a public park setting. The Arboretum can be accessed with the City of Sheridan's pathway system. The trees can be enjoyed while biking, walking or running.
