MPA Application Process
Minimum Application Requirements
Note that GRE/GMAT scores are not required to apply.
- Submit the and pay the $50.00 application fee. The application fee cannot be waived.
- Upload all official transcripts (undergraduate and post-graduate). If you are a UW graduate, please upload your unofficial transcript.
- A minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required.
- Upload your resume.
- Upload your Letter of Interest (2000 words or less)
- Respond to: Why do you wish to pursue a graduate degree in Public Administration?
- Upload your Analytical Writing Response (2000 words or less)
- Respond to: For some time, police officers on three adjacent beats have met each other for a coffee break at a restaurant near a point where the three beats intersect. They usually have coffee and a donut and occasionally a piece of pie. The proprietor never charges the officers for their orders. Some people think this practice is acceptable; others think police officers should pay like any other customer of the restaurant. What is your view of the situation?
- Provide at least 2 professional and/or academic recommendations from individuals knowledgeable about your preparation and qualifications for graduate education (the email addresses of your recommenders will be requested during your online application process.)
Optional Application Requirements
. Assistantships cover tuition, fees, and student medical insurance, as well as a monthly stipend for students who work within teaching and research areas within the department. The GA positions are awarded on a competitive basis and require full-time presence in Laramie for the academic year. If interested, please submit your application to the School of Politics, Public Affairs & International Studies. Graduate Assistantship applications received by March 15th will receive priority consideration for the following academic year. Applications are accepted year-round, on a rolling basis, however, applications received by the March 15th deadline will receive priority consideration in the assistantship award process.
Deadlines
We accept applications year-round, but usually cut off admitting about 2 weeks before the beginning of the semester or when the program fills. This usually turns out to be:
- August 13th for Fall
- January 1st for Spring

The University of Wyoming's institutional minimum acceptable TOEFL score is 540 (76 iBT); the minimum acceptable IELTS score is 6.5.
IELTS and TOELF scores must be sent to ÃÛÑ¿TV directly from the testing agency to be considered official.
The following are TOEFL/IELTS alternatives for evaluating English proficiency.

Foreign students, who are non-native English speakers, must pass the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI). Information regarding OPI waivers for native English-speaking applicants can be found here.
The MA ÃÛÑ¿TV Committee may recommend provisional admission, including specific coursework to be completed, if a student's background is deemed insufficient, but will not consider any form of admission without a complete application.
Application Decisions
Once all materials have been received, your application is complete. After an evaluation of all credentials by the MPA admissions committee, the director will send a recommendation to the Graduate School to admit or deny.
