Graduate Assistant Onboarding and SGE Graduate Teaching Assistant Learning Community

  • All Graduate Assistants (GRA, GAA, GTA), returning and new, are required to complete the SGE Graduate Assistant Onboarding course, via WyoLearn.

  • Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) with first time teaching responsibilities as graduate students who will have teaching responsibilities; and have not yet completed any previous GTA symposium prior to fall 2025, are required to attend and complete the SGE-ECTL GTA Learning Community Program (5 in-person sessions in total) in one semester. Learn more about the GTA Learning Community.

The School of Graduate Education Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) Learning Community course is required to be completed for graduate students who hold teaching responsibilities. Graduate students with teaching duties can register via UW WyoRecords (subject "Graduate School" and course number "0000â€‌). Although the course does not carry academic credit, completion is mandatory for all graduate students with teaching responsibilities to maintain eligibility for their graduate teaching assistantship. There is no cost for the course, but it will appear on your official transcripts as an “S/Uâ€‌ course.

The Graduate Learning Community course is organized into cohorts (sections) that meet in person throughout the semester. Participants will be provided with a course text as well as any additional supplemental materials required for the program.

GTA's only need to complete the program one time. The GTA LC sessions will be in-person and offered both fall and spring semesters.  The learning community program is designed to support the GAs who are active GTAs in the current semester.

Graduate Student Degree Timeline
New graduate students at أغر؟TV should follow a timeline of requirements to ensure they are on track to graduate. Initially, students with teaching duties must take the online Graduate Assistant Teaching and Learning Symposium. Throughout their program, students need to form their thesis/dissertation committee, submit a Program of Study, and, for doctoral students, pass a preliminary exam. As they approach graduation, they must complete their research product, declare their anticipated graduation date, and successfully defend their thesis or dissertation. Final steps include submitting necessary forms, completing revisions, and uploading their work to ProQuest. Students are HIGHLY encouraged to visit the Graduate Student Degree Timeline to keep track of these requirements for graduation.
