ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

Class Change Over - Reminder to avoid driving in Prexy's Pasture during class changeover and yield to pedestrians at all times. The sidewalk between the Agriculture Building and Engineering is NOT a service drive.

  

GENERAL INFORMATION & MAPS

 

– The best quick reference for active capital construction projects, both vertical and civil maps are available. On the left side of the map, there are layers that you can select with the check boxes to change what is visible on the map. Click on the features on the map for information.

 

Vehicle Access to Core Campus - Vehicular traffic flow onto core campus will be restricted. Every effort must be made to keep vehicles off of the Prexy’s area during peak passing periods. The Berry Gate access, at 9 ½ Lewis Street, will be the only access. Incoming vehicles must pass through this controlled entrance utilizing an authorized WyoOne card.

ONGOING & UPCOMING PROJECTS

 

Annual Steam Shutdown (July2 - August 11, 2026) - Our annual steam shutdown is scheduled for Thursday, 7/2/26 and will end Tuesday, 8/11/26.                                                                                            

 

General notes about the annual steam shutdown -

      1. Some buildings have a permanent or summer back up domestic water heating system which will supply 110° F hot water during the outage period. They are: Science Initiative, Arts and Sciences, Bureau of Mines, Coe Library Book-N-Bean, Energy Innovation Center, Engineering Education Research Building, Field House, Field House North, Half Acre Gym, High Altitude Performance Center, Hoyt Hall, Ag C, Knight Hall, Old Main, Ross Hall Dining, Service Building, STEM, Student Health/Cheney, High Bay Research Facility, Tobin and the Student Union.
      1. Backup building heat systems are available at: Energy Innovation Center – 3rd floor, Engineering Education Research Building, Science Initiative Building, High Bay Research Facility, Engineering Addition, Ag Addition, Anthropology, STEM and Bio Sciences – 5th floor vivarium.
      1. Backup autoclaves are available at: Ag C Rm 5024, Animal Sciences Molecular Biology autoclave room and Bio Sciences 427.
      1. A backup cage washer is located on the 5th floor of Bio Sciences.
      1. The State Vet Chem and BSL-3 Lab buildings are not affected by the shutdown and have autoclave capability.

 

The portable boiler for the Washakie Complex will not be installed this year.  Downey, Orr, McIntyre & Washakie will not have hot water during this time.

 

Anthropology Building Shelving Renovation (EJ Services, February, 2026 thru June, 2026) – The project installs high-density shelving units for the State Archeologist archives in the basement of the building. Concrete and piping demolition continues. There will be disruption to the area around the loading dock on the north side of the building for project staging (see map here). Please use caution in the area particularly north of the building around the loading dock and in the basement of the building.

 

Aven Nelson Building, Wyoming Migration Initiative Renovation (UW Operations) – Portions of the first floor are being renovated for the Wyoming Migration Initiative and the Zoology Dept.  Demolition is currently underway.  Please use caution around construction activities, equipment, and materials.

 

Gateway Center, North Circle Drive and Sidewalk Replacements (Prairie Equipment, June, 2026) – Contractor will be working as weather permits. Access to the building will be along the north side during the project. Please use caution in work areas.

 

Pilot Hill Trailhead Improvement Project (Pilot Hill Inc., June, 2026) – Pilot Hill Inc. is constructing a parking area with restroom building and outdoor shelter East of Jacoby Golf Course near the Jacoby Ridge Trail and North of Willett Drive. Site cleanup is underway with irrigation, landscaping, and parking lot lighting scheduled for spring. Please use caution in and around the work area.

 

Sigma Phi Epsilon Hazardous Materials Abatement (Colorado Hazard Control, Periodically between February, 2026 and May, 2026) – Areas within and outside of the building are to be abated.  The parking lot and street parking out on the south side of the building will be temporarily unavailable during periods of contractor work.  Please use caution as equipment enters and leaves the parking lot.

 

Student Housing and Dining Project (JE Dunn Construction, Inc., Denver, CO) – Phase III of the UW North and South Hall landscaping project is scheduled to begin on March 2, 2026. Construction fencing will be erected east of the Wyoming Union, south of Education, and north of McWhinnie Hall.   Pedestrian, bicycle, and ADA access will be limited during the construction and alternate routes have been identified (see map here). Additional updates will be provided as the project progresses, with July 2027 as an anticipated completion date. 

 

UW Aquatics Center (October, 2024 thru August, 2026) – The staging and work area for the UW Aquatics Center will be in place thru August, 2026. (see map here) Please use caution in the work area.

 

Visual Arts – Solar/Thermal System Deconstruction (JC Construction, November, 2025 thru April, 2026) – The solar thermal system is being removed from the roof, grounds, and areas within and adjacent to the west mechanical room 154.  Pathways will be cordoned off around active construction areas (see map here).  The west row of the north parking lot will be used for equipment and material storage.  Please use caution as equipment rolls along pathways and halls, map attached.  Limited hot water disruptions to the building will occur on occasion.

 

War Memorial Stadium West Stands Renovation (GE Johnson, Inc., Jackson, WY; January, 2026) – Remaining work items and punch list items will continue until complete. Please use caution in work areas.

 

Wyoming Council for Humanities (Prairie Equipment, April, 2026) – Resurfacing of the lot is scheduled to continue into April, 2026.  The alley north of the lot and a small portion of parking lot Zone 104 will be blocked intermittently by heavy machinery (see map here). Please use caution around construction activities, equipment, and materials.
