Survey Information
The Sunn pest (Eurygaster integriceps) is a major pest of wheat, barley, and oats in Asia, Eastern Europe, and North Africa. Crop losses are substantial where this pest is found. Surveys are conducted because of the presence of potential host material in Wyoming and because E. integrceps has been intercepted at ports in the US. To date, it has not been found in the wild in the US.
The Sunn pest portion of the Small Grains Commodity Survey is conducted by the Wyoming
Pest Detection / CAPS Program. The survey is a visual examination of the host plant.
Host plant fields are swept with a net and visually surveyed June through August.
Sweep net samples are examined for suspects at ÃÛÑ¿TV.
