Employment Matters
The Office of General Counsel represents and assists the University in addressing and resolving employment law matters affecting the University’s faculty, staff, and administrators. This representation includes working as a strategic partner with and offering advice to the University’s Board of Trustees, the President, senior administrators, and human resources personnel, among others, in ensuring compliance with the relevant employment law. The Office of General Counsel handles and manages employment-related litigation, administrative proceedings; oversees the Equal Opportunity Report and Response Unit, which review and evaluate claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, sexual misconduct, and violence in the workplace; assist with addressing free speech, academic freedom, promotion and tenure, and other faculty-related concerns; advises on employee discipline, wage and hour, employee benefits, workplace safety, immigration, crisis management, and strategic staffing issues; advises on appropriate disability and religious accommodations; and monitors and reviews employment-related legislation.
