University Records
University records tell the story of our institution. By responsibly creating, maintaining and preserving these records, the University demonstrates it commitment to transparency and good stewardship of public resources.
The Office of General Counsel provides legal advice regarding public records requests; privacy issues, including issues of access, use and disclosure of student records, employee records, and medical records; policy issues; records retention issues; and information technology matters, including contracts and licenses, access to and use of digital resources, and information security. Our attorneys may also provide assistance with issues such as electronic signatures and records management, as well as information security issues, including data breaches.
Records Retention
The American Heritage Center (AHC) provides records management for the entire University community. Records management is the application of management techniques to the creation, use, maintenance, and retention of University records, ensuring access to public information.
Records Requests
Record requests submitted to ÃÛÑ¿TV are governed by the Wyoming Public Records Act. The Wyoming Public Records Act provides the public with access to public records, books, and files of state governmental agencies (subject to exceptions).
Public Meetings Act
The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees (BOT) is subject to the Wyoming Public Meetings Act which provides that all meetings of the governing body of any agency are public, unless otherwise provided. Committees of the BOT are not subject to the Wyoming Public Meetings Act.

Data Breaches
The Office of General Counsel provides legal advice about information security matters, including data breaches. All data breaches should be reported to the Office of Risk Management as soon as possible.
